Insurgent Grace

Here’s a little taste of my soon-to-be-available photo and poetry book, Pénombre

Insurgent Grace

The safe harbor, where our journey begins,

Tattered sails undulating in oyster light,

The forestay sings out the names of those lost at sea,

Chants echoed, rising up from the deep,

Can you hear the notes of the siren's song?

Can you feel the undertow

At the intersection of memory and dream?

The foghorn cries out long and low,

A Cantus in Memoriam,

Every dirge, a psalm of love,

The only tales worth telling,

Are stories of love,

Wholehearted, unabashed, unfaltering,

The greatest act of rebellion,

Spurred on by insurgent grace,

A lesson in surrender,

To love is to live,

To love is to lose,

So, bang the drum slowly, raise the white flag high,

Go boldly now,

The sail is set, the sea is calling.
